As we near election day 2024, we’re bombarded with political noise: nonstop TV ads, social media clips, fiery political sermons from the pulpit, and a flood of robo calls and texts pushing us to make a choice.
In the midst of this political chaos, church leaders should be careful not to cater to partisan interests.
Instead, we should encourage Christians to trust the Holy Spirit to guide them in making decisions that align with biblical principles.

A Warning to Bible Teachers
James 3:1 says, "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment."
This warning emphasizes that we must handle Scripture with care and responsibility, particularly those of us who are called to teach.

With that in mind, here are some biblical principles to consider before casting your vote:
Trust in the Lord: Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
This verse reminds us to rely on God rather than solely on our own judgment. When voting, take time to pray and seek God’s guidance. Ask yourself if the candidates' values align with the Bible and what God desires for you, your family, community and nation.
Ask for Wisdom: James 1:5 tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
Don’t hesitate to pray for wisdom when making your decision. God promises to provide insight and clarity when we seek it earnestly. Consider what issues matter most to you and how each candidate addresses those issues in light of what the Bible teaches.
Follow the Spirit's Guidance: John 16:13 says, "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth."
The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in helping us discern truth and make wise choices. As you research candidates and their policies, be open to the Spirit’s leading. Pay attention to your conscience and how candidates’ views uphold biblical values.
Conclusion
In summary, approach your voting decision with trust in God, a request for wisdom, and an willingness to rely on the Holy Spirit's guidance. This holistic approach can help you choose candidates who align with biblical values.
While political social media rebuking may be trendy these days, it isn't always the best approach.
You can't go wrong by sticking to the Bible rather than relying on partisan preachers, emotions or trends.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
May the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.
