The Flawed Foundation

My perspective on politics was completely changed by the fundraising totals of the 2012 presidential campaign.

President Obama collected $1.123 billion compared to Governor Romney's $1.019 billion, making it the most expensive presidential election to date.

At that time, as a young father, I couldn't help but wonder why the candidates didn't simply give that $2 billion directly to the people if they truly cared about making a difference.

Such a sum could have provided significant help to numerous individuals.

Instead, political candidates need to raise millions of dollars to fund attack ads and pep rallies against each other, all while claiming they aim to bring about positive change.

And the financial stakes have only continued to rise, with the 2020 presidential election costing approximately $14 billion.

The very foundation of America's political system is flawed. But we have a sure and firm foundation in Christ.

The Firm Foundation

The flawed foundation of politics reminds us of the inherent imperfections and limitations of human systems.

However, in contrast, Jesus Christ, the firm foundation, gives us assurance, strength, and reliability.

1 John 5:13-14 speaks to the assurance of eternal life to all who believe in the name of the Son of God. Similarly, 1 Peter 1:3-6 highlights the living hope we have in Jesus, transcending any uncertainties that may arise from political structures.

Furthermore, Ephesians 2:8-10 emphasizes the gift of salvation offered by grace through faith, contrasting the partisan political system that offers favors to its supporters.

Also, John 4:13-14 declares that Jesus is the ultimate source of fulfillment and sustenance, surpassing any temporal campaign promise from a shifty politician.

In the midst of another presidential political contest, we should remember to place our trust in Jesus Christ. In Him, no matter what occurs in this world, we have eternal life.

With Jesus Christ, we have a firm foundation. With Jesus Christ, we win!

May the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.
