In the wake of yet another tragic mass shooting, our hearts ache with sorrow for the lives lost, families shattered, and communities ravaged by senseless violence.

Being a father of three, these stories evoke feelings of both sadness and anger within me.

As we extend our deepest condolences and prayers for comfort to those affected, we are compelled to confront a pressing question:

Will American schools survive this mass shooting epidemic?

The time for action is now. America is in dire need of solutions from this increasing problem that plagues our society.

Seeking Wisdom in Difficult Times

James 1:5 offers an important reminder in times of crisis: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

These words urge us to turn to God for guidance and clarity when faced with challenges beyond our understanding.

God granted humanity the gift of free will, knowing the inherent risks that come with it.

Despite the choices that have led to a world tainted by sin and violence, His love remains unwavering.

In seeking His wisdom and guidance, we take the first step towards finding solutions to the affliction of mass shootings that plague our nation.

The Big Question

Assault weapons are extremely lethal firearms with a much higher rate of fire compared to traditional hunting rifles. This is why they are the weapon of choice in mass shootings.

In cases where someone wants to shoot as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time, could prohibiting assault weapons help reduce the number of injuries and fatalities?

I believe the answer is yes.

Three Solutions for America's Epidemic

1. Protect Children At All Cost

In Matthew 19:13-15, little children were brought to Jesus. The disciples initially objected, but Jesus welcomed them, affirming that the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as them. He then blessed the children.

Jesus loves children.

Given that schools are vulnerable to individuals looking to commit mass harm, it is vital that we put in place all necessary measures to safeguard our children from these malevolent individuals.

Why not allocate money from taxes to place well-equipped resource officers in every public school, two or more if the school size justifies it.

Additionally, implementing a system of metal detectors, at least temporarily, could provide an extra layer of security.

If passing through a metal detector could prevent even a single mass school shooting, then it would be deemed worthwhile.

I think many parents would support the use of our tax dollars in this manner.

2. Responsible Gun Owners, Ensure Our Firearms are Secure

When Jesus was about to be arrested, in John 18:10, Simon Peter cut off the right ear of the high priest's servant, Malchus, with a sword.

This passage raises two questions:

1) What was the reason behind a disciple of Jesus, who had been in His presence, carrying a sword? And 2) Why did Jesus, being God incarnate, permit Peter to cut off the man's ear?

Considering Jesus had foretold Peter's denial of Him in Matthew 26:34, obviously He was aware of Peter's possession of the sword and his intentions.

The point, and reality, is that people have the right to carry weapons, and the 2nd Amendment protects that right in the United States.

If one decides to possess a firearm, it is important to implement additional safety measures to prevent anyone other than the owner, particularly minors, from accessing the weapon.

3. Prohibit Assault Rifles

Ephesians 6:12 makes it clear that there is a spirit of darkness behind the wickedness in this world. Buying more assault rifles and bullets is not the solution to this spiritual.

And on a purely practical note, and there may be some pushback, but I struggle to see any valid reason for having assault rifles in our neighborhoods.

One common argument in favor of assault weapons is to defend against a tyrannical government.

However, in the modern era, if the U.S. government were to become tyrannical, citizens would require far more than just assault rifles to counter the advanced military power and technology of the country.

My position is not the government forcibly entering homes and searching for assault rifles owned by law-abiding citizens.

A good initial step would involve prohibiting the sale of these particular guns, actively targeting criminals and gangs that use them, and then adopting a rational strategy to eliminate them from our communities altogether.

I am not anti-2nd Amendment and believe everyone has a right to own a gun. But considering a handgun can be used in mass shootings I am just a father who is fed up with assault rifles being used in mass shootings, especially in schools.

Conclusion

If you have any solutions or if you disagree with my proposed solutions, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

As we face the sobering reality of America's mass shooting epidemic, let us heed the call to seek wisdom from God.

By God's grace, through faith, compassion, and collective action, we can forge a path towards healing and safe schools in our nation.

May the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.
